Interactive Dialogues On "Campus Life"
Media House in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) organized a one day interactive dialogue on campus life at three universities.University of Swat,University of Peshawar and Kohat University of Science and Technology .Teachers and students from different departments participated in the activity to share their views and opinions on campus life.
Young Ambassadors – Dialogue for peace & Reconciliation
Media House Islamabad along with 09 ambassadors from Pakistan participated in a Pak-Afghan Young Ambassador Conference for Peace & Reconciliation held in Afghanistan from 18th Dec, 2017 to 22nd Dec, 2017. The activities included sessions with youth, academics, civil society and media activists, cultural events, study tour, and photo exhibition. The objective of the activity was to promote peace between two countries through such exchange programs.
Access to Balanced Information Project
Media House another ongoing project is “Access to Balanced Information” in KP and Baluchistan with DW Academy 2014-17. In 2014, the Media House prepared a course on Conflict Sensitive Journalism for all universities of KP and Baluchistan province, trained faculty members of journalism and mass communication departments of KP and Baluchistan province. Besides, the Media House prepared a training manual for working journalists of KP and Baluchistan province. In 2015, the Media House organized 5 Focus Group Discussions and consultation meetings with Faculty members and Head of Journalism departments of 12 KP and Baluchistan Universities with the purpose to develop 4 modules on four thematic fields i.e. Ethical Standards, Psychological safety, physical safety and Digital Safety in Crisis Reporting. The drafts Modules have been developed.
Capacity building of Journalists (KP & FATA)
Media House Islamabad carried out a series of 6-Day Capacity Building Training Program for Journalists of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa & Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) in 2016. Total 12 sessions were carried out including six TV Journalism and six Radio Journalism Trainings. 144 participants attended these trainings where they were skilled on Reporting, News Packages Production, Camera Work and Non-Linear Editing majorly. 28 TV and 48 Radio news packages were produced by the participants during these trainings. Guest Lectures were also arranged for the participants to help them learn from their senior journalists. The project was completed in December 2016.
Local Media for Local Government
Training of journalists on understanding issues and key concepts of local government and its media coverage with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) 2015. Objective of the project to spread awareness and required skills on reporting and importance of local governments, information on the role, responsibilities and functions of local government representatives and their social benefits to journalists and reporters. To provide detailed information to journalists about functioning of local governments, and train journalists on effective monitoring of local governments, besides their capacity building in feature-writing.
DW Akademie Activities
4 activities organised by DW Akademie, Germany in collaboration with Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Peshawar held in Media House Islamabad in 2013. Time Frame: Training of the Trainers (TOT) for University teachers from June 03rd to June 14h, 2013 Training of the Trainers (TOT) for Journalists from June 03rd to June 14h, 2013. Training and conference on Children’s Programs and practical Journalism education in Pakistan from October 22nd to October 26, 2013. Training and conference on Conflict Sensitive Reporting/Security of Journalists from December 09-20, 2013.
Training workshops on Basic Reporting skills and themes of Journalism with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES)
The six months project was completed in 2010. The Media House held training workshops in which journalists from tribal areas and different districts of KP province participated. Main objective of these trainings was to reach out to journalists in the Tribal and peripheral areas of KP province and help them acquire journalistic skills. The journalists also produced radio and TV programs at the end of each training workshop, which were on-aired from Campus Radio FM-107, University of Peshawar.
Capacity building of journalists in Radio and TV journalism with Heinrich Boell Stiftung (HBS)
The Media House completed the project in eight months in the year 2012. Young journalists from KP province and FATA participated in these trainings. Journalists were trained both in theory and technical aspects of radio and TV journalism, to enable them to work in a hostile environment in a professional manner without compromising on quality journalism and their life. Likewise, journalist produced radio and TV programs, which were on aired from Campus Radio FM-107, University of Peshawar.
Establishment of Audio/Video studios and Capacity building of journalists in Radio and TV Journalism with Heinrich Boell Stiftung (HBS)
The Media House completed this project in the year of 2013. Under the project, we established well equipped Radio and TV studios. Besides, the Media House organized trainings for journalists on Radio and TV journalism. Young journalists from KP province and FATA participated in these trainings. Journalists were trained both in theory and technical aspects of radio and TV journalism. They also used already established studios and produced radio and TV programs, which were on aired from Campus Radio FM-107, University of Peshawar.
Establishment of Radio/ TV studios
The Media House Training and Research Centre have established full-fledged and well-equipped Radio/TV studios in collaboration with Heinrich Boell Stiftung (HBS) with the financial help of German Foreign Ministry. The Media House completed this project in the year 2013. Media House is regularly organizing training workshops for journalists to train them both in theory and technical aspects of Radio and TV Journalism. During training the journalists use this facility for practical exercises i.e. recording/editing in Adobe audition and video editing.
World Press Freedom Day Observed
The media has a very important task in promoting democracy and that the most important duty of the journalists is to report the news fully and responsibly,” said Vibeke Jensen, Representative/ Director UNESCO Islamabad while addressing a debate on, “Let Journalism Thrive! Towards Better Reporting, Gender Equality and Media Safety in the Digital Age” on on May 4 at Islamabad to mark Press Freedom Day 2015. Vibeke Jensen emphasized that media could play a significant role in promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.
Peace for the region with Mediothek Afghanistan from 2008 to 2012. The Media House organized conferences, seminars, one-line conferences, roundtable discussions, training workshops for Pak-Afghan cross-border areas journalists. Politicians, journalists, civil society workers, lawyers, academicians, researchers were participating in these activities. Main objective of these activities was to provide a neutral platform to discuss problems and give recommendations/suggestions for durable peace in the region. In the project, the Media House arranged seminars, workshops and conference for the journalists to discuss and address the issues facing them. It was importance for the working journalists to be kept updated in accordance with the changing scenarios in the areas where they work. These activities help them exchange views with their peers and learn how they improvise to address the critical issues they face.
Training workshops on language and context of News Story with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES)
This project was completed in eight months in the year 2011. The Media House held these training workshops for journalists of KP province and FATA. Main objective of these trainings was to help journalists be the tool and vehicle of change and to help them appreciate and understand the value of journalism and journalists in the conflict-ridden zone.Besides, to help them improve and maximize their potential and enable them to follow modern journalistic skills and ethics. Journalists produced programs were also on aired from Campus Radio FM 107, University of Peshawar.
Afghanistan-Pakistan journalists exchange programme-Understanding the Neighbour with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES)
The first phase was held in Pakistan in June 2012 and the second in October 2012 in Afghanistan. Total 22 journalists were selected from Pakistan and Afghanistan. At the end of each phase of the programme, these journalists wrote reports focusing on issues that are of interest to both Pakistan and Afghanistan. The reports were published in the Express Tribune and The News in Pakistan and in the Afghanistan Times in Kabul.
